Winners of the Elihu Root Trophy read as a "who's who" of yacht racing at Seawanhaka, and include A.L. Loomis Jr.; Commodore David Kennedy; Arthur Weeks; Commodore Richard Coons; Commodore "Harry Anderson"; "Swede" Whiton; Commodore Perry Neff; Commodore James McCurdy; Commodore Larry Glenn. The Trophy was retired in 2005, and restored in 2017.

The Elihu Root Trophy is open to all yachts who have a valid YRALIS PHRF certificate.
